Today is Stephen Sondheim’s 90th birthday, and it’s not going as planned.
It should have included many celebrations, culminating in the Broadway opening night of his reconceived Company, coming to New York following an acclaimed West End run. There also would and should have been countless tributes across the globe. In my own very small way, I was scheduled to participate with a tribute appearance on Radio Times, a Philadelphia-based public radio show.
Instead, we’re honoring him from a distance, as we (and likely he) sit at home, in quarantine…
